Austin Non Profits

Cancer Connection - creates opportunities for Central Texans whose lives are currently impacted by cancer to receive the unique support only survivors can provide. Through peer matching and as clinical partners in local-area hospitals and treatment centers, our survivor volunteers provide psychosocial support and procure tangible resources, all without cost to patients.

Cancer Support Community Central Texas’ (CSCCT) - objectives are to help people affected by cancer learn to actively cope with their cancer, take responsibility and control of their care, and make desired lifestyle changes to improve their emotional and physical well-being. To achieve these objectives CSCCT’s activities encompass the following five areas: • Support-helping patients and caregivers throughout the cancer journey so no one has to face cancer alone; • Education-programs and workshops to help participants better understand and manage the many facets of the disease; • Healthy Lifestyle-programs that address exercise, nutrition, stress reduction, expressive arts and other mind/body therapies; • Social Activities-opportunities to share and laugh with others; and • Information and Referral-learning to access and navigate available information. The mission of Cancer Support Community Central Texas (CSCCT), is to ensure all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action, and sustained by community.

The Texas Fair Defense Project (TFDP) - is a nonprofit organization based in Austin, Texas that works to improve the fairness of Texas’s criminal courts and ensure that all Texans have access to justice. TFDP focuses on improving the public defense system and challenging policies that create modern-day debtors’ prisons filled with poor people who cannot afford to pay commercial bond fees and post-conviction fines and costs. TFDP defends the rights of indigent criminal defendants through litigation, education, and advocacy.
